This week, we’re excited to talk to Malin Roghelia of Heart is Found Photography and Moirai Tools for the Creative. Malin started her photography journey in high school and went on to attend art school. Eight years ago, she began to get serious about photography. As friends and family saw her work she began to experience the power of word of mouth marketing. Soon, friends of friends were asking her to take their pictures and a business was born.
Today, Malin runs a successful studio in the Fayetteville, GA area. Although she does pay for advertising and has a robust email marketing strategy, the word of mouth referrals that got her started are still the most important part of her marketing strategy.
“Nothing else works unless you have the foundation of word of mouth…paid advertising is a reminder of the word of mouth that’s happened before.”
Another key to Malin’s success has been time management and developing an efficient workflow for everything; scheduling, editing sessions, creating albums, blogging and preparing email blasts.
“If I’m going to spend time away from my kids, I’m going to need to be paid for it. Just like when I had a corporate job.”

After purchasing and being disappointed by several products designed to help with this, Malin was ready to take these time consuming products off of her price list. Fortunately, she and her husband Josh, a talented software developer were able to create the Moirai Compositor, a powerful but simple to use script that can be used in Photoshop to quickly create storyboard layouts, composites for your blog and even album spreads.
